Welcome to my second blog post ever! I promise to post short, regular updates on life here at Woodchip & Magnolia…a sort of diarised account of our rapidly growing and exciting business journey.
So much is happening, it’s way too easy to forget the day to day details and the important moments which shape our progress? No matter how busy life is, I’m determined to document and share those snapshots and insights into our business and philosophy. I’d love feedback along the way, so please do share your thoughts if you have time in your own busy schedules.
Collaborating with the #womensinstatute
Friday 15 June saw the launch of a really inspiring new creative workshop group @thewomensinstatute. Born of the burgeoning interiors Instagram community, three interiors obsessed women got together and created a really unique and inclusive event, offering taster sessions in Insta photography courtesy of Jane @love_your_lens and furniture decoupage techniques from Sarah @relovedmcr.
Held at the achingly beautiful home of Wendy @wendy.house123 in Bowden, Altrincham, Woodchip & Magnolia was invited to be part of the day, showcasing a selection of our wallpapers to a group of seriously interiors -savvy guests.
We were delighted to sponsor the furniture decoupage session held by Sarah @relovedmcr – also a co-host of the event - who gave a highly informative live demo using our Pheasant print wallpaper created in collaboration with Kate Learmonth. It’s great to see how our papers can be used in different ways, and decoupage is a fantastic way to incorporate bold pattern or colour into an interior scheme.
It was such a treat to escape from the studio with my very hardworking and talented design assistant, Jess, and to find ourselves in such relaxed and down to earth company. We got to chat to like-minded creative souls from all walks of life – learn some new skills in the most beautiful venue imaginable and eat the most gorgeous spread of food.
It made me step away from the day to day craziness of running a business, and felt more like a yoga retreat than a workshop – such was the relaxed vibe! Sure, we talked wallpaper to fellow textile fanatics, which is technically ‘work’ – yet it really couldn’t have been further from it!
We also got to hang out with Fiona, owner of one of our favourite independent retailers, Rose and Lee Interiors in Prestwich – who stocks our wallpapers! Fiona brought along a gorgeous, edited collection of eclectic interiors accessories and upholstery fabrics, and also gifted fab handmade candles for guests.
I’m told there are more workshops in the planning – mostly in the North West of England initially, although I’m sure the movement will spread! You can keep up to date with new events and happenings: @thewomensinstatute
Right, back to work for us! Lots happening in the studio right now, and we’re planning ahead for two London based exhibitions in Autumn…new, exciting designs and collaborations to be unveiled…more of that to come!
