5 Mood-Boosting Design Ideas

Mood-enhancing interior design is a huge trend for 2023, perhaps as the antidote to the past few years of hardship including the pandemic and cost of living crisis.

Our homes have become our havens and increasingly where we spend most of our time living, working, staycationing and sleeping, so it's imperative they're a place we can retreat to; where we can feel rested and happy. Some may find this is in muted palettes and others in bright and colourful patterns but whatever your style, a mood-boosting interior design is a sure fire way of keeping spirits up when at home.

Our experts have put together 5 ways to create a mood-enhancing interior in your own home...

1. Add sunshine to your walls
The colour yellow is synonymous with positivity and a sunshine state of mind. If it seems an intimidating colour to use in your interiors, start small by adding pops of yellow accessories like our Rivington Yellow Cushion or adding a splash of yellow to your walls or woodwork. If you're feeling brave, try a yellow wallpaper such as our Rivington Yellow which works great in period properties alongside period features like coving and panelling.

2. Use uplifting and colourful patterns
Whether it's on the walls, upholstery, soft furnishings or all of the above, uplifting wallpaper and fabric designs will certainly put a smile on your face. Anouska Lancaster has demonstrated this perfectly at her home in Cornwall, choosing a bright patterned wallpaper in Sherbet Arcadia and carefully picking out the colours in the design to use throughout her accessories. We also love how Anouska has clashed patterns using stripes, florals and geometric designs together perfectly - a masterclass in successful pattern clashing!

3. Bring the outdoors in
There's nothing more invigorating and mood-enhancing that the great outdoors, so why not bring them inside? Create a refreshing and calming feel to a space by adding a tree-scape mural like our Oasis mural alongside colour pop paint shades and accessories with nature inspired prints (check out our cushion collection!). Everywhere you turn you'll be reminded of the fresh air and flora and fauna on your doorstep, a definite mood booster in our book.

4. Make it personal
The only way you'll ever feel truly happy in your own home is to decorate exactly how you want. Let the interior design reflect your personality from the wallpaper and soft furnishings to the personal touches like family photos and items collected on your travels. The best interior design is when it's true to the home owners self.

5. Seeing stripes
Stripes add instant energy to a space. Big, small, wide, skinny, long, short; whatever the stripe, it's certain to make your heart feel happy. Not only do we love stripes as a neutral, we also love them as a bold and colourful statement. Try a wide striped wallpaper such as Awning Stripe Pink Cloud/Gorse on a feature wall or for something a little more subtle, our Matchstick collection comes in 4 gorgeous colourways. Try also clashing stripes with floral prints for a mood-boosting design twist and for a real statement, wallpaper the ceiling!
