EVERY WOODCHIP & MAGNOLIA DESIGN HAS A STORY
And every story starts with founder and designer Nina Marika Tarnowski. Since childhood Nina has used the flora, fauna and the rich landscapes of her native Lancashire as inspiration for her designs. Raised by parents who converted a church 1000 ft above sea level on the West Pennine moors complete with high wooden beams and floor to ceiling windows into a minimalist, family home bursting with character. Nina would spend evenings gazing out of the window as the changing colour of the northern sky cast an ethereal glow across the moors and forests.
Aged just five she told her school teacher she was going to be a wallpaper designer and that’s exactly what she did after graduating from Leeds College of Art in 1997 with a BA (Hons) in Surface Pattern and Textile Design. Fast forward, and after 18 years as Head Stylist and Design Manager for British wallpaper house Graham & Brown, Nina has now gone solo – alongside husband Paul who is also an industry expert – with a determination to do things differently. They don’t follow trends or have a signature style. Instead they launch designs they love when the mood takes them.
They work with artists they love and boast unique ranges, including a stunning collection of wallpapers and velvets from vintage style queen Pearl Lowe – Their wallpapers now hang in the bedrooms of supermodels, five-star hotels and legions of family homes. And they are as passionate about the environment as they are about their designs and all wallpaper is printed using water-based inks on FSC-sourced paper to cut pollutants, and every item is printed to order to ensure minimal wastage.
Because interiors need never be boring again!
