Rich in texture and rhythm, Fernshaw is a layered, expressive design inspired by the quiet beauty of a fern thicket. Organic forms overlap and interlock, echoing the way foliage gathers naturally in a small woodland. Intricate mark-making and repeating motifs create depth and movement, rewarding closer inspection while remaining beautifully balanced at scale.
The name Fernshaw draws from Old English - fearn, meaning fern, and shaw, a small wood or thicket, capturing the essence of sheltered growth and untamed nature. This sense of enclosure and abundance is woven into the design, evoking forest floors, ancient landscapes and the comforting stillness of being surrounded by greenery.
Both decorative and grounding, Fernshaw brings a tactile, immersive quality to interiors. Ideal for spaces that invite warmth and character, it offers a contemporary interpretation of nature.
Pile direction: all pieces must be cut in the same direction or they will reflect light differently and read as two colours.
Shading: velvet naturally appears lighter or darker depending on your viewing angle. This is inherent to the fabric, not a fault.
Grinning: digital printing sits on the pile surface. Stretching over a tight frame can reveal the base cloth beneath. A natural characteristic, not a fault.
Upholstery projects: please consult your maker before ordering to confirm suitability, quantity and cutting plan.
