Measuring your walls (or ceiling) for a mural is much easier than you might think. Here's our quick and easy guide on how to do it...

- Measure the full width and full height of each wall you want to wallpaper

- If you want your mural design to flow smoothly across connected walls, don’t order separate murals. Instead, measure all the walls together.

- Each roll is 52 cm wide and comes numbered in the order it should be hung

- Important: Add at least 4 inches (10 cm) to the width of the last wall and the overall height as a safety margin. This gives you wiggle room when installing

- We will produce your wallpaper to the exact measurements you give us, so double-check before ordering

Measuring a standard wall
Measure the full height and width and height of the wall exclude the skirting boards and or coving. Take a moment to double-check — it’s worth it!

Multiple connecting walls

- For a wraparound mural, add the height and width of every wall to get the total dimensions, and place one single order for that full size. In the order’s comments box, note that it is a wraparound mural and include the individual measurements for each wall, plus any plans or drawings you have

- Measure the width of each wall and add them together into one total width so the pattern runs continuously

- Add 10 cm (4 in) to the final wall as a safety margin

- Measure the height from the highest point and add the extra 10 cm there too

You don’t need to order the mural as separate parts — we’ll make it one continuous design

Measuring a sloped Wall
If you have a sloped ceiling or wall, ignore any slopes and measure the longest and widest part of the wall. The mural will be printed as a rectangle or square so during installation, you would cut away the section where the slope is.

Multi-sloped walls

Find the longest parts of the wall for both width and height and measure those. Again, the sloped pieces are cut away on site.

Pitched Wall
Like when measuring a sloped wall, measure the longest and widest part of the wall and cut away the sloping sections during installation.

Walls with obstacles
When a door, window or additional obstacle is on the wall, please still measure the width and height of the wall you want to cover. As the mural is produced as a rectangle or square, that area would be cut away during installation. 

Walls with doors, windows or other obstacles

Measure the complete wall — full width and full height. Any door or window areas will be cut out when the wallpaper is installed.

Staircases

Measure the wall at its highest and widest point, ignoring the slope. Any sloping/excess will be trimmed off during installation.

Ordering a mural is much easier than you might think, just follow our easy instructions;

1. Firstly, head to 'wall murals' on the top navigation bar of our website

2. Scroll to the mural you’d like to purchase and click

3. Find the ‘customise your mural’ button

4. Input your measurements in cm (width and height)

5. The cost will be calculated once the measurements have been inputted

6. To the left hand side of the screen you’ll also be shown how the mural will look to the scale of your bespoke measurements

7. If there are any tweaks to the design that you would like, please add these to the comments box at this stage (please note that major tweaking of the design may incur an extra charge. Please get in touch at hello@woodchipandmagnolia.co.uk for a bespoke quote)

8. Once you’re happy with your measurements, click ‘add to bag’

8. Your mural will then be saved in your cart, which you can access to the top right hand side of our website

9. Click ‘cart’ and then ‘checkout’ and you will find where you can input your delivery details. Shipping will also be calculated here

Due to the bespoke nature of our customised murals, we cannot offer refunds.

Manufacture time can take up to 3 working days from the point of customer sign off, due to the bespoke nature of our murals (please note our design studio is closed on Fridays).

Once manufactured, delivery can take an additional up to 3 working days (UK only).

Prepare your walls

The first thing you need to do before installing any type of wall covering is to prepare your walls. Doing so means your wall mural will have a long and healthy life and is key to the perfect finish.

Cut the panels

Your mural will come in a series of panels like the image above. Cut your panels where the cut lines are indicated (starting with number 1). This is the direction you will hang each piece of the mural.

All of our murals are 'paste the wall'. This means you paste the wall and NOT the paper. We would advise a premium premixed tub of 'Paste The Wall' adhesive widely available online or at your local DIY store. Nina loves to use 'Solvite Paste the Wall' paste in particular as it rolls on pink and dries clear (which can be extremely handy when it comes to decorating!)

Please do not use self-mix adhesives, all purpose or heavy duty paste as these are not suitable for our beautiful designs.

Hang the panels
Next, hang each panel with a straight match from left to right, starting with panel 1. Ensure it's vertically straight (we'd recommend a laser level!), then smooth down and trim where necessary. Then, move on to the next panel! It really is as simple as that.

All delivery costs are calculated by the size and weight of the items in your order and confirmed at the checkout. Additional charges apply to oversized parcels, e.g fabric rolls – more details here.

All orders are sent with UPS (Delivery Duty Paid), meaning that taxes and duties are included in the final price.

Unopened wallpaper rolls and ready-made panels can be returned or exchanged within 30 days of delivery, if unused and in their original packaging.

Return label costs vary by courier and are shown during the process.

A 20% handling fee only applies if your entire wallpaper order is returned unused for refund.

Samples, paint, fabric, bespoke murals, and sale items are non-returnable.
